Final FreezeOut Reminder

Posted on Jan 8 2017 - 8:26am

Hello Everyone,
The registration window for the upcoming FreezeOut weekend is closing soon. I’d like to understand who’s attending by the end of our Troop meeting on the 10th so I can get people registered before the Knox Trail deadline. Tuesday the 10th is also the last Troop meeting before the event so we’ll be going over the food, equipment, etc. planning. To date, we have 20 people (Scouts/parents/leaders) who are planning to attend. Webelo IIs may also be attending Saturday and Saturday night if they are interested.
As always, here are the basic details. Let me know if you have questions.

DATES: January 20 – 22, 2017
LOCATION: Camp Resolute, Cherokee Site (Confirmed)
THEME: “Star Wars, Battle Planet Hoth” Freeze Out
Cost $33 per person ($34 via PayPal).

If you have not already done so, please let me know if you will be attending. I’m attaching the pertinent documents again as people have been asking for them.
Going forward I will be using a “trip specific” email group instead of emailing the entire Troop.
Let me know if you are interested and/or if you have any questions.
Thanks Everyone!
Steve Desmarais

Eagle Project

Posted on Dec 13 2016 - 9:27am

Hello Troop 2,

Thank you to everyone who came to my project on Saturday! We were able to make 2 benches. I will be engraving them, and adding plaques. They will be placed at Jaworek Elementary School in the Spring.
Thanks again!

MBU at UMass Amherst

Posted on Nov 10 2016 - 8:20am

Troop 2,

Registration is now open for the Merit Badge University at UMass. Below is the link to sign-up.

*Please note, in prior years any rank could take required merit badges. However, they have now limited those badges to First Class only.

Mrs. Byrnes

Good Morning Everyone,

We are writing to let you all know that registration for MBU 2017 is open!

MBU will be held at UMass Amherst on Saturday, February 25th and Saturday, March 25th, 2017. Both days are required.

Registration and payment will both be online this year through Tentaroo, an event registration website used by the Western Massachusetts Council. To register, go to the link below:

https://www.tentaroo.com/weste rnmass

If you have used Tentaroo to sign up for Western Mass Council events before, you can log in with your username and password. Otherwise, you will need to create a new account. If you create a new account, you will need to verify your email address in order to log in.

Once you are logged into Tentaroo, select Merit Badge University from the list on the left. Click on 'Add Event Registration'. From there, you will select the date (NOTE: only the first day is listed). Add the number of youth you would like to register (you can do this for 1 scout or your entire troop). Verify that your contact information is correct under the profile tab. Next, under the roster tab, you will need to add scouts to your roster. Note that you will need to know their date of birth (as some badges have age restrictions) and their ranks (as some badges are restricted to scouts who are first class and above). Next, under the Event registration tab, click on 'New Youth Registration'. On the screen that pops up, select the name of the scout, then click on 'Create Registration'. From there, click on the 'Classes' tab (or click on 'Continue to Pick Classes' at the bottom). Drag classes to where it says 'Drag Classes Here' from the list on the right side of the page. When you have finished adding classes for scouts, click 'Save'. Once you have done this, you can add more scouts by clicking 'New Youth Registration' or finish by clicking 'Checkout'. You will be brought to a screen where you will enter in your payment information. Once you have done this, click 'Submit My Order'.

If you have questions about any of the above steps, please let us know.

MBU will cost $6 per scout. We will also be selling T shirts online for $9 each through Tentaroo as well. All this information and more is on the flier, which we have attached below.

On tentaroo, the event location is listed as Herter Hall. This could change, as we will not receive official confirmation from UMass until the beginning of February. Once we know which building(s) we have on campus, we will send an email out to our email list.

A list of prerequisites for badges/anticipated homework assignments will be emailed out as soon as they are finalized. Completing these prerequisites will increase the chances that scouts will be able to finish the badges at MBU, as not all badges can be completed at MBU without doing work beforehand/doing homework between the two sessions.

In addition, some badges are limited in size (i.e. Game Design, Archaeology, Public Speaking), required badges are limited to scouts who are first class and above. Some badges, such as Chemistry, Nuclear Science, and Programming all require that scouts have some prior knowledge or experience. Make sure that you/your scouts are aware of these when signing up.

Registration will close on January 25th, 2017. No registrations will be accepted after this date. Registrations emailed to us and payment (checks) mailed to us will not be accepted.

For specific Registration/Tentaroo questions, contact our APO advisor Mia Santos (santosm028@gmail.com), who is copied on this email.

For general MBU questions, email Nick or Raghu or simply reply to this email.

We hope to see you all at MBU!

Please join me and Troop2 in congratulating Jacob Byrnes on his achievement to the rank of Eagle Scout with the completion of the Eagle Board of Review Today.
His project was to perform Trail Maintenance and two bridge decking replacements in the Cider Knoll Conservation Land.
Well done and congratulations Jacob on this earning this highest rank in scouting!
